2014 Human Needs Hero Jim Weill

2014 Human Needs Hero Jim Weill

Today, the need for organized advocacy around the rights of low-income and vulnerable populations is more important than ever. There’s so much work to be done, and we all need a hero to motivate us to keep striving for justice. This year, CHN will be honoring Jim Weill as our Human Needs Hero. Jim has spent years leading the fight for justice for low-income people. As the president of the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC), Jim has been an unwavering champion of innovative anti-hunger strategies for nearly 20 years. He’s used his talents and passion to better the lives of others throughout his career, having previously worked with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago and the Children’s Defense Fund, and serving on the boards of organizations including the Poverty and Race Research Action Council, Alliance for Justice, and the Illinois Civil Liberties Union.

We invite you to join us next Wednesday, July 23from 5:30-7:30 pm at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC, to celebrate our Human Needs Hero of the Year and support the work of the Coalition on Human Needs.

As a coalition, CHN organizes and supports the efforts of experts like Jim Weill. With your generosity, CHN and its staff of five are able to host biweekly advocates meetings, organize visits with members of Congress and their staff, publish a biweekly Human Needs Report, host webinars to educate and train advocates around public policy issues, disseminate information on policies hurting low-income people and opportunities for action, post timely policy analyses on our blog, Voices for Human Needs, and take a stand for low-income and vulnerable people. CHN could not perform its work without the knowledge and support of its member community, so we hope to see you next Wednesday to celebrate the work we all do.

Opportunities to sponsor the event are available until July 17th. Individuals can purchase tickets and buy a line in the program, with the option for an intern/fellow ticket rate available. Tickets will also be available at the door. If you’re not in DC or can’t make the event, you can still buy a line in the program or make a general donation to CHN. We hope you will join us in honoring Jim Weill and supporting CHN’s extensive human needs advocacy efforts.
