Editor’s note: Deborah Weinstein, Executive Director of the Coalition on Human Needs, issued the following statement Friday, October 28, in response to the shocking home invasion and assault on Paul Pelosi:

“The news of the attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, fills us with dismay. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery, and want Speaker Pelosi to know we are holding her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. 

“Reckless words, we have seen again and again, can trigger violent acts. We believe strongly in freedom of speech. We also believe those who would exercise leadership have an obligation to refrain from irresponsible incitements. The cost of such recklessness is high. 

“Members of the Coalition on Human Needs send our hopes of swift recovery to Mr. Pelosi and Speaker Pelosi.”
